Why would someone willingly challenge themselves to do this?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Day is recognized annually on June 27. In the week leading up to his 12-hour cycle on June 27th, Andrew is raising funds for Help Us Help Programming that supports veterans and other vulnerable populations in Ukraine, many of whom are living with PTSD.
PTSD is a disorder that may result when an individual lives through or witnesses an event in which he or she believes that there is a threat to life or physical integrity and safety and experiences fear, terror, or helplessness (American Psychiatric Association, 2021). While PTSD cannot be cured, its symptoms can be managed to help restore the affected individual to normal functioning.
Much of Help Us Help's programming is designed to help veterans and members of other vulnerable populations in Ukraine manage symptoms of PTSD and other disorders, and learn how to cope with past trauma. Our mission is to ultimately provide the tools, training and resources to enable them to become fully contributing members of society.
Keep an eye out on our social media platforms over the next week (June 21 - June 27) to learn more about PTSD, the veteran situation in Ukraine, and our joint programs with Veteran Hub, Pobratymy and IREX! Follow us to hear directly from some of the veterans and their families in Ukraine who have participated in our joint programming.
