COVID-19 has not stopped Rape Crisis Midwest from holding their annual fundraiser, although in a slightly different format. 10 former Dainty Daisies volunteered their time to take part in an online dance video raising awareness of the importance of supporting the vital supports and services that Rape Crisis Midwest provide.
This event comes at a time when the centre has experienced an increase in demand for their services along with a 75% decline in fundraising income
The idea for 10 Proud Marys was discussed as an alternative to the annual event held in the Woodstock Hotel, Ennis. The men who perform in the video are from a variety of backgrounds from accountants to poets and have all competed in previous events. Here is the link to the video - https://bit.ly/3ny0mNx
Cormac - In a time when domestic abuse and sexual violence is on the rise it was a small gesture to help keep such amazing and vital services running. We wanted to stand in solidarity with the victims to let them know they weren't alone"
Laurence - At the back of my mind are the number men who cannot and don't know how to deal with past abuse and this terrible event may have haunted them throughout their adult life
Martin - as a society, we need to talk openly about rape. The Rape Crisis Centre is an amazing service for women and men
