10K for Hay - Running to feed our therapy ponies

Our 26 therapy horses and ponies make magic happen every day for our participants - which makes them very hungry! That's why we're running: to feed their hungry tums!

We daily see how being around horses enriches the lives of children and adults with disabilities or learning difficulties. We offer activities that can help improve confidence, skills and self-esteem, set within a supportive and friendly environment.

Story

On June 11th 2023 we're running a 10K race to raise funds for our therapy horses.

We have been gifted 10 entries to the Turks Head 10K race organised by Bearcat Running Club, and we are planning to make the most of it - just look at the elated faces of last year's runners crossing the finish line!

Why are we raising funds?

As a charity, we rely on donations to keep our services going. As for everyone, the cost of living crisis has hit us hard. The cost of feed for our horses and ponies has gone up by considerably. This takes a large amount of budget away that could be used to support more people in need.

What we do

We're a small stables with a big heart. We're an award winning Riding for the Disabled (RDA) centre. We work with children and adults, with disabilities and without, offering equine and hippotherapy and act as a social hub. We are inclusive and welcoming, be it to receive respite from the challenges faced by daily life, a quick horsey cuddle to lift the spirits or a chat with one of our staff or volunteers.

We call ourselves the community stables because we are here for everybody. The same way that anybody can use a library or a pool, we are for everyone who wants to get involved. Natalie O'Rourke MBE

Run on kindness and inclusion, everyone who is part of it is a better person for it. Vicky, Volunteer

About Us

We are a registered RDA (Riding for the Disabled Association) centre with a wide programme of activities, including assisted riding, horse care, carriage driving, and hippotherapy. We daily see how being around horses enriches the lives of children and adults with disabilities or learning difficulties. Whether on the autistic spectrum, visually impaired, or a full-time wheelchair user, we offer activities that can help improve confidence, skills and self-esteem, set within a supportive and friendly environment. All sessions are run by fully trained RDA instructors and DBS-checked volunteers.
