The Juniper Trust began supporting small, sustainable projects in Nepal over 30 years ago, focusing on helping the poorest communities—especially children. Proudly volunteer-run, the Juniper Trust keeps costs to a minimum, with 98% of funds raised going directly to our projects.

Story

🌲Nepal Evergreen is a volunteer-run project by The Juniper Trust, now planting a mix of fruit trees and native Himalayan species across rural Nepal — supporting local communities while restoring forests and degraded land.

🌱Since 2020, we’ve worked closely with farmers and villages to regenerate soils, improve food security, and create sustainable livelihoods. Fruit trees provide long-term income and nutrition for families, while native trees are planted for reforestation, biodiversity, and ecosystem recovery.

🌍 In 2026, a new partnership with ONCRA (Organic Carbon Research Association) brings advanced soil carbon testing and organic agriculture research into the project, helping us better understand carbon capture, soil health, and long-term climate resilience — and strengthening the regenerative farming impact across Nepal.

🌲 What began with planting trees around schools rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake has grown into a wider, community-led programme reaching villages across Solukhumbu, Nuwakot, Okhaldhunga, Kinja Valley, and other rural regions of Nepal.

🍊 Thanks to our supporters, we’ve already planted 60,000+ trees, including apple, pear, plum, peach, apricot, walnut, lemon, orange and coffee, alongside bamboo, alder, lokta and other native Himalayan species — with early harvests now supporting families and community farms on the ground.

Every tree planted creates multiple benefits. Fruit trees provide food, income, and more resilient local farming systems, while native trees support reforestation, biodiversity, and healthy watersheds. Together, they help capture carbon — supported by soil carbon research and monitoring — and are planted and cared for by local communities, ensuring long-term ownership and lasting impact.

✈️ Offset a flight to Nepal

A return flight to Nepal can generate around 4–5 tonnes of CO₂. A donation of £25 ($30) helps plant and care for around 10 trees, offsetting up to 5 tonnes of carbon over their lifetime — while also feeding families, restoring land, and supporting climate resilience in the Himalayas.

🌱 Our 2026 goal

In 2026, we’re setting an ambitious target to plant 20,000 trees in Lower Solukhumbu, with 50% fruit trees to support local farmers and 50% native trees for reforestation and ecosystem recovery. To make this possible, we aim to raise £20,000, with every pound going directly into tree planting, community involvement, and long-term land restoration in the region. With an estimated 85% survival rate, this planting is expected to absorb around 6,000 tonnes of CO₂ over the next 20 years.
