Story
What is the 10-in-10?
Today, someone living in a more affluent area of Leeds will live at least 10 years longer than someone living in a deprived area of the city. In many cases, these communities live just metres away - we're sure you can agree that where someone is born shouldn't affect their life chances in such a significant way.
The 10-in-10 is a 10 mile walk across Leeds to represent this shocking difference in life expectancy. Teams from Zest and Bruntwood are walking to raise awareness and much needed funds to support the work Zest are doing to fight health inequalities and social isolation in the city. Starting at Harewood House, we'll be making our way off-road through rolling countryside, ending at Bruntwood's city centre location Platform, where we can look back at the view of our beautiful city.
Let's work together to make Leeds a fairer city for everyone who lives here.
The difference your contribution will make
I started about a year ago, I was completely broken down, no hope for the future, I had lost my confidence but everyone from my group and the staff and management were amazing. Zest have so much to offer for your recovery, from walks to cooking classes to coffee and chat groups. They cover so many daily activities, there is always something that suits everyone. Zest has played a major role in my life. I cannot express enough gratitude for that." - service user.
All Zest projects address the city's health inequalities and social isolation through activities based on the communities needs and that improve physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing.
The group gives me an excuse to socialise and a buffer for bumps in the road. For the first time in a long time, I'm breathing.
