Story
On 5th Jun 2018, Fred had just proudly completed the Camino de Santiago de Compostela trek, one of the world's oldest pilgrim routes in Europe. On the same day, twelve months later, we were saying our final goodbyes to him as we laid him to rest. Unfortunately, on 16th May 2019, Fred was diagnosed with a very rare form of Leukemia called T-Cell Lymphocytic Leukemia and less than 24 hours later he had already found his peace.
On 2nd May 2021, Fred's daughter, Hayley and twelve of his friends and family members will be taking on the same 120-mile trek to honour Fred and to raise money for charities which were very dear to his heart, Jolly Josh and The Katie Piper Foundation.
Jolly Josh was founded by family friend Carole Kelly, in memory of her 1 year old son Joshua Kelly, who sadly passed away in 2017. Carole was a primary school teacher for many years before she became a full-time carer for little Josh. She found that there was a huge gap in the health support system, which meant that families who had pre-school children with disabilities and special needs did not have the means to connect and forge peer/professional support networks. Carole created Jolly Josh with the help of an outstanding team, in the hope that they could bring families together, share experiences, exchange information and eliminate isolation. More information about Jolly Josh can be found here: www.jollyjosh.co.uk
The Katie Piper Foundation is a charity that aim's to have a world where scars do not limit a person’s function, social inclusion or sense of well being. This charity has provided significant support to Fred and his family when Hayley, his daughter endured 37% third-degree burns to her hands, face and neck after being involved in a barn fire. More information about the Foundation can be found here: www.katiepiperfoundation.org.uk
Our aim is to raise a total of £1,500 for each charity, which is an ambitious sum, but with your generosity, we are sure this could be achieved.
It is going to be a tough ride as we are all not as young and fit as we used to be, but with Fred's spirit guiding us along, we know that we will achieve it!
Thank you so much for your anticipated support.
