Story
Three months ago our lives were turned upside down. We attended a routine antenatal appointment on 06/08/2021 at 09:30AM.
We were informed that our second son, George Samuel Parker, would need to be delivered that day as he was not coping in the womb. He was 26 weeks.
Given his gestation and having lost a child the year before due to miscarriage we were petrified. George was born at 12:30PM that day weighing 595g (1lb 5oz).
In such a short time George has become the strongest person we know. Having faced seemingly insurmountable odds including a massive bleed on the brain, hydrocephalus, neurosurgery, a broken arm, a huge inguinal hernia and chronic lung disease together with a heap of other issues commonly affecting premature babies George continues to fight on and now weighs 1.85kg (4lb 1oz).
George still has a long way to go and a lot of battles to fight, but we are confident that he can face anything given what he has been through. He is likely to be in Intensive Care and High Dependency for a while longer before we can finally bring him home and introduce him to his brother, Jack, who has never met him.
10th November is an important day to mark for us. It’s George’s due date and we want to mark the occasion by raising some funds for the fantastic Neonatal unit that have cared for him.
George would not be with us now if it were not for the incredible Neonatal and Neurosurgery teams at both Burnley General Hospital and St Mary’s Children’s Hospital in Manchester. We owe them a debt that we can never repay.
You can watch a video of how George has progressed here (please note that this may be distressing to watch).
Thank you for your donations.
