About Broomsgreen Community Hall
Our Hall is a Memorial Hall, the original building having been erected in 1921 to honour the memory of villagers who gave their lives in the 1914 – 1918 war. (There are still people living in the community who have the same surnames as those honoured.) We are now a thriving local community hall in the village of Broomsgreen, a few miles from Ledbury on the Gloucestershire/Herefordshire border. Our mail contribution is to reduce social isolation and improves people’s feeling of wellbeing. We are wheelchair accessible and are working on becoming fully accessible with a hearing loop. As well as hosting regular groups, e.g. bridge club, a ladies' club and short mat bowls, we host one-off events which reach out to local residents and provide opportunities for people to develop and/or show off their many talents. We are an important local amenity, which is within walking distance of about 40 households. The Hall has been a local hub in a rural area since it was first built over 100 years ago. It is a different kind of focal point from a pub or café, neither of which we have. The Hall has been maintained by the local community, who have benefitted socially from its amenities for over 100 years.
We have a plan of sustainable improvements, the first part of which is to replace our antiquated drainage system with a new state of the art BioDigester. As well as receiving a Community Grant from the Forest of Dean, we are currently raising funds by hosting social events.
