We fund medical research to improve the lives of Lymphoma patients

Story

Hi everyone,

This message is to say a huge THANK YOU to each and every one of you for the massive amount of money you have helped us raise for the Lymphoma Research Trust. So far, we have received pledges which have smashed our original target of £800, and have been contacted by the Lymphoma Research Trust who would also like to convey their special thanks to everyone who has sponsored us. Your money will go towards the research being carried out at the Lymphoma Trials Office under the leadership of Professor David Linch, and will help discover the most effective treatments for Lymphoma.

We had a great weekend running in Brussels at the beginning of October, and were able to enjoy visiting the city prior to the race, as well as tasting the Belgian beers in post race celebrations! Beer never tasted so good! The crowds around the long, looping course which circled the city centre were a great help as there were a couple of climbs which tested our determination and stamina to the max!

We were all very pleased (and some of us quite surprised!) to beat our Bristol times – John and Paul did a superb sub two-hour run and finished in 1hr59mins, Helene came in just behind them in 2hrs2mins, and Helen took four minutes off her Bristol time to complete in 2hrs7mins. The spectacular Grand Place provided the backdrop for the finish line and our post-race photos, some of which can be found here.

Thank you once again for all your support.

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give you all a quick update on our running progress and the fundraising we have secured so far for the Lymphoma Research Trust. As many of you already know, we completed the Bristol Half Marathon on September 6th and had great fun around the course, even if we did feel a little sore the day after!

The weather was set fair but cool, and the morning conditions made for good running. The boys stuck together and completed in a time of 2hrs9mins, while Helen came in a couple of minutes behind them in 2hrs11mins. Race highlights included the very vocal support we had from parents and friends at strategic points along the course (a big THANK YOU to them), as well as the music and entertainment which was organised by Run Bristol. A particular favourite of ours was Queen’s Square where children were asking runners for high fives, and most of us were pleased to oblige - their amusement helped inspire us to keep running and complete the last three (very long) miles!

We are keeping up training and although the nights are starting to draw in you should still be able to spot us pounding the streets of Paris or Brussels! Our next challenge lies in the Belgian capital, where we will be running another Half Marathon on October 4th. Hoping to beat our Bristol times and raise even more money for the Lymphoma Research Trust we would welcome your support.

Thank you to those who have already donated to our chosen charity. We are very grateful for the amazing amount of money pledged so far.

All donations, however large or small, are warmly received, and don't forget to leave a motivating message if you like!

Many thanks !

In September and October of this year, Helene, Helen, John and Paul will all be donning their trainers and heading for the start lines of the Bristol Half Marathon on September 6th, and the Brussels Half Marathon on October 4th, ready to run the 13.1 mile (21.1 km) courses around the city centres and tourist trails. Hoping to maintain fitness levels through to the end of the summer and, more importantly, to resist the temptation to relax too long on those cafe terraces, we are confident that at least one of us will get round both of these races!

We will be running for the Lymphoma Research Trust which supports research into the treatment of lymphoma and organises clinical trials to see which treatments are most effective for patients, hopefully working towards an eventual cure.

The Lymphoma Research Trust relies entirely on voluntary donations and does not benefit from any government funding, so we would love you to sponsor us if you can. Your support for our chosen charity is sure to help motivate us on the way round.

Needless to say, if you are in Bristol on 6th September, or Brussels on 4th October, then your vocal support on the course would also be more than welcome, as would your company in one of the city centre bars following the races!!

Thank you
