This May I’m running the 36km challenge and I’m doing it to raise money for the Ottawa Heart Institute. A place that my mom knows all too well, one year ago today she was in surgery for a surgery at the Ottawa Heart Institute and this year she’s doing the 36km challenge for the second time.

My mom has been a patient at the Heart Institute on and off since I was a little girl and over the past 6-8 years she’s been a frequent flyer. She received her first pacemaker just over 5 years ago, one year ago she went in for a repair on a lead for her pacemaker and left a very complicated surgery with a new pacemaker.

She’s been told countless times that her running and active life is the reason she’s able to feel as good as she does. If you didn’t know she has heart failure and you’d probably never guess. She inspires me and countless others everyday. She has made people fall in love with running and she encourages her friends and family to challenge themselves and push themselves while they have the opportunity too.

She is my inspiration and my driving force for everything in life.
