Story
We are a group of Army Cadets and teachers who are raising money for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.
John Thornton, from Ferndown, was a 22 year old young officer in the Royal Marines. He lived a very active life through Air Cadets, travelling and skydiving amongst other things and he once took the passenger seat in a Hawk jet trainer. He accomplished a great deal and his legacy is the Young Achiever's Foundation set up by his parents Pete and Linda. All proceeds are used to support young people in this area pursue their ambitions. We are very keen to support this charity.
This year, he would have celebrated his 30th Birthday and as the “30 miler” is also one of the standards by which all Royal Marines are measured, the foundation are celebrating this by asking fundraisers to complete the distance of 30 miles by whatever means.
Our challenge is to complete a “30 miler”, running and hiking around Poole Bay and the Purbecks on Sunday 12th April. The challenge will start and finish at the Hiker Café, Broadway, Hengistbury Head leaving at 0650hrs. We would expect to complete this in 7-8 hours.
