Between 28th April and the 1st May 2016 myself and my cousin, Andrew Shuttleworth, will undertaking a personal journey by walking approximately 30 miles along the Annandale Way in Southern Scotland. We will be starting our journey at the Devils Beef Tub near Moffat and finishing at Dalton Parish Church near Lockerbie. 

We are walking to raise money for the Cavell Nurses' Trust in memory of my grandparents, Ann & William Morris. They were both Nurses during their working lives, with William specialising early on in his career as a Mental Health Nurse.

Reflecting back on my family history, I came to realise that many of my relatives past and present have been involved in Nursing in some form or other through the years. This is what made me want to help a Nursing based charity.

 

Cavell Nurses’ Trust provides welfare support to Nurses, Midwives, Healthcare Assistants and students who are in financial or personal hardship, often because of illness, domestic abuse, disability, working poverty and older age.

I know through talking with many nurses that they often work long hours for low wages. I believe that nurses and others that work in similar jobs deserve to be helped as much as they help others.

Our route takes me from the small Dumfriesshire village of Dalton where my grandparents grew up, lived and married, through their last place of residence (Lockerbie) and onto The Devil's Beef Tub near Moffat, where my grandfather William (known as Stuart to many) ended his successful fundraising "Buggy Ride" for the Scottish Air Ambulance a few years ago.
