Story
Day 1 - Lands End to Bude. 100 miles. 9am to 7pm
The day started off with James falling off in the car park at lands end, however no harm done. We had south westerly winds behind us and good weather to start us off. Tomorrow looks a bit stormy.
Day 2 - Bude to Taunton 80 miles. 12.00pm to 8.00pm
As we thought there was a fair bit of rain and flooding on the roads, did this take any wind out of our sails, no, we endeavour through whatever mother nature throws at us.
Day 3 - Taunton to Chepstow. 83 miles
Wet, windy, got lost in Bristol and very happy to arrive in Wales.
Day 4 - Chepstow to Ironbridge. 90 miles
Wye valley very nice, then flat and dryish all the way to Coalbrookdale
Day 5 - Ironbridge to Warrington 80 miles
Good weather, nice and flat countryside, mostly flooding on the roads.
Day 6 - Warrington rest day - not recommended!
Day 7 - Warrington to Sladeburn 80 miles
Forest of Bollan is especially lovely after the depths of the Industrial Midlands
Day 8 - Sladeburn to Langholm 125 miles
Lancashire and Cumbria very nice cycling
Day 9 - Langholm to Edinburgh 75miles
Dropped into Edinburgh with the first prolonged sunshine
Day 10 - Edinburgh to Pitlochry 80 miles
Slept in petrol forecourt, Highland Games in Pitlochry (unbeknown to us) busiest night of the year! However saved by Fiona at the Pitlochry YHA at 1.00 am, after some dark wet A road cycling we ended up on the YHA lounge floor.
Day 11 - Pitlochry to Aviemore 70 miles
Not much sleep led to not as much cycling as intended, however going through the Highlands was spectacular
Day 12 - Aviemore to Carbisdale (Castle) 80 miles
Dropping into the Kyle of Sutherland is the highlight, rain most of the day. Much recommend the YHA Castle to stay, very grand interior.
Day 13 - Carbisdale (Castle) - John O'Groats 120 miles
Bit of headwind at the start, then some very flat Scottish scenery to help us to arrive at 8.00pm. We also went to the lighthouse - another 5 miles in the pitch black!
Day 14 - John O'Groats - Wick 16 miles
5.30 am start in the dark, delayed train to Inverness followed by a midget controlled by an unfriendly national car rental lady, and a 13 hour drive via Sladeburn and Warrington to Bath.
