Our story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our just giving page in memory of our Gaz, the most amazing friend, husband, son, brother and daddy. We said goodbye to this incredible man in February after a two year battle with leukaemia. Gareth was only 41 and has left behind a huge hole in many lives. We all know how much Gareth would put into making sure something good came out of his truly devastating situation and that is what #bemoregaz has set out to do.
The race
A group from our local Crosspool community are taking part in one of Gareth's favourite races, the Round Sheffield Run, to raise money for some special causes which were a huge part of Gareth's life in the last few years. The Round Sheffield Run is a challenging 20km trail run around some of the most beautiful green spaces in Sheffield, but with over 600m of vertical incline. Our team includes 14 parents from our community where the children all go to school, many are running this distance for the first time.
Our team name, #bemoregaz is a celebration of this man and the huge imprint he made on all of our lives. #bemoregaz represents Gareth's determination and enthusiasm for adventure which inspired many that knew him to better themselves in so many ways. If you happen to be around on the 24th June to cheer us along, we will be starting in Endcliffe part at 9:45 and you'll recognise us by our eye-catching orange T-shirts with Gareth's beautiful face on the back, generously sponsored by TFC health club.
The cause
The Cavendish cancer care provided support to Gareth, his wife Lindsay and his two small children, from the moment that he received his diagnosis. Not only through counselling for Gareth and Lindsay but also with expert specialist children's therapies which have been fundamental in helping Isabel and Sienna try to process what their daddy was going through.
The ward at the Hallamshire Hospital also provided commendable care and personal support throughout Gareth's journey and significant treatment programmes.
We appreciate anything you can donate to help us do what we can to support these organisations in continuing to provide the incredible care that they did to Gareth. Your donations will be split equally between the two causes.
We will all be trying not to let Gareth down by completing this challenge, but if we can smash our target of £1,000 then we might even pick up the pace!
