The non-profit Belfast Solicitors' Association (BSA) is hosting events in support of local homelessness charity The Welcome Organisation.

Every year around 20,000 people present themselves as homeless to the NI Housing Executive, 1/3 of those are from Belfast and 57% of them are single and mainly male.  Only £3 per day can help The Welcome Organisation provide food for one person per day.

Many people living on our streets want to find work and shelter.  Homelessness happens because something bad happens and they don't have family or friends around to help.  Redundancy, benefit cuts, poor mental health, alcohol/substance addiction, domestic abuse and relationship breakdowns are some of the reasons why people end up homeless.  It could happen to any of us.

With support, homelessness can be left behind.  The Welcome Organisation can offer life changing advice and support to those from our society who are living homeless.  Tackling homelessness is about much more than putting a roof over people's heads.  The Welcome Organisation provides shelter, advice, support and helps people make a fresh start but they are in desperate need of your help, and of our help.

I am both humbled by the staff who work so hard and selflessly to help those most vulnerable living in our society but I am also deeply concerned by the lack of resources available to homeless people living in Belfast.

The BSA are honoured to have The Welcome Organisation as our chosen charity.

As part of our efforts to raise much needed funds for this extremely important charity, the BSA has done the following:

1. submitted relay teams for the Belfast City Marathon 2.5.16

2. Organised a charity pub quiz House Bar Stranmillis 28.4.16

3. Silent auction at the Gala Dinner 4.6.16
