Story
Hi everyone!
This summer, I will be taking part in the Warwick in Africa programme in which my team and I will be spending six weeks teaching English and Maths to underprivileged children in rural villages in Limpopo, South Africa.
We will be providing support and mentoring to teachers, helping to improve their English and confidence in teaching as well as working with them to develop creative and inspiring lessons for students. This is more important now than ever before considering the negative impact the pandemic had on educational progress and learning, especially within girls’ education.
On a more personal note, I am very passionate about access to education for all and I would like to play a small role in helping to reduce the educational inequalities the pandemic has exacerbated. South Africa is one of the most unequal places in the world, and immense poverty and limited access to educational resources are commonplace.
In September, I will be challenging myself to run 100km over 10 days to raise money, of which all funds will go directly to the schools and to ensure students continue to thrive and benefit from the programme year after year (fingers crossed I won’t have to be running in 30-degree heat!).
I will be posting regular updates on this page and on my social media so you can see my progress throughout the month.
Any donations and shares of this page would be greatly
appreciated!
Thank you!
Becky :)
