Story
Hi, we are Olivia and Robin and we're cycling through Asia to raise money for Solar Aid. If you've got a minute let us tell you a bit about it...
We will be pedalling 10,000 miles, from Bali to Beijing. This will take us through eight countries, up mountains, into rainforests, over volcanoes and through heaving metropolises.
You can follow our progress at www.wecycletour.blogspot.com
Solar Aid is a charity tackling climate change and poverty. The bulk of their work takes place in Africa where they train, equip and support local entrepreneurs to establish businesses that bring solar technology to their communities. Only 2% of rural Africa has access to grid power so these projects are of enormous value, bringing affordable and renewable energy to clinics, community centres and schools.
The money we raise will be used to train local people how to install, repair and maintain the solar panels as well as providing education in sustainable income generation and renewable energy. So after Solar Aid's initial investment businesses are able to support themselves and they continue to benefit the community with jobs, energy, education and training. As well as working in Africa, Solar Aid have projects in London to provide teacher training, materials and support to bring young people up to date with the science of green technology.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send every penny directly to Solar Aid and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
To address the issues of climate change and global poverty is to make the world a better place. We were struck by Solar Aid's pragmatic and far-sighted approach.
We hope you'll help us in supporting Solar Aid, as we think it can make a real difference.
