Story
During the COVID19 pandemic and the subsequent state sanctioned self-isolation, there has been a lot of media coverage of victims of domestic abuse in particular. We know that in the first two weeks of the lock down in the UK, 10 women and children were murdered by their current or former partners. We know that victims and survivors need us now more than ever. The National Domestic abuse helpline has reported a 150% increase in hits to their website and a 25% increase in calls to the line.At Aurora we have responded by setting up our own 24/7 helpline, to take the pressure off the National line and ensure more victims can access support. We have committed to remaining open 24/7 until the lock down lifts. We also know that we will see and have already seen a huge increase in referrals to all our services, both now and when the lock down ends. In order to respond to the increased need we are welcoming any donations, or fundraising events. We are really grateful for any support.
