ASH'S ULTIMATE ULTRA CHALLENGE
I have challenged myself to complete three seperate ultra marathon races in order to raise money and awareness for Cancer Research UK. My planned challenges are as follows:
- FIRST CHALLENGE (TP100): The Thames Path 100 will be held on 2 May 2015. This event is a 100 mile non-stop run along the River Thames from Richmond, London to Oxford with a 28 hour time limit.
- SECOND CHALLENGE (SDW100): The Petzl South Downs Way 100 will be held on 13 June 2015. This event is a 100 mile non-stop run that takes the entire south downs way national trail with a 30 hour time limit. The course travels along the chalk ridgeway, starting just outside of Winchester, the capital city of Saxon England and heading due east until the trail ends in Eastbourne.
- THIRD CHALLENGE (100MB): The 100 Meilen Berlin will be held 15 August 2015. This event is a 100 mile non-stop run that traces the perimeter of the Berlin Wall (or where it once stood) with a 24 hour time limit. This event is about remembering a bitter part of Berlin’s history of having a divided city marked by the Wall.
Each of the above events will not only challenge me physically but also mentally.
Why am I doing this? First and foremost it's an awesome way to raise money for one of my favorite charities - Cancer Research UK. It’s frightening how many people have cancer or know someone who is affected by cancer. Cancer is the number one fear for the British public, feared ahead of debt, knife crime, Alzheimer’s disease and losing a job.
Over the past century, the researchers at Cancer Research UK have made consistent progress in the fight against cancer, and survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years as a result of their efforts. For more information on Cancer Research UK see their website: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/
The other reason is that I do these crazy challenges - perspective. It allows me to realize that everyday stresses are not such a big deal in the grand scheme of things, or more colloquially, “don’t sweat the technique!”
Thanks for taking the time out to read and I appreciate your support, no matter how small :)
Cheers,
Ash
PS By donating you will definitely get more bang for your pound given I am going to end up completing 300 miles LOL
