Last Person to Finish the 2024 London Marathon

The last person to finish the 2024 London Marathon was Fred Tomlinson from Doncaster. Fred completed the marathon in 13 hours, 23 minutes, and 17 seconds, crossing the finish line just after midnight. This event marked Fred’s 32nd consecutive London Marathon, demonstrating his dedication and perseverance.

Fred participated in the marathon to raise funds for the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity in memory of his late daughter, Claire. Despite being the last official finisher, Fred received support from tailwalkers—volunteers who assist slower runners to ensure they safely reach the finish line.

Due to the time, Fred crossed the finish line at an alternative location in St James’s Park, as the official finish line on The Mall had already been dismantled. Despite the challenges, Fred described this year’s marathon as his best, thanks to the support he received throughout the race.

Around 50 other runners completed the marathon after the official time limit, using the alternative finish. The London Marathon organisers have introduced initiatives like tailwalker support and alternative finish lines to enhance the experience for slower participants.

Fred’s story highlights the inclusivity and spirit of the London Marathon, where every finisher is celebrated, regardless of their completion time.
