Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 1811 at Newbury in Berkshire, a one thousand pound wager was made to make a coat from the sheep’s back to a man’s back in one day. Watched by 5,000 people, the coat was completed in thirteen hours. The sheep was eaten with much quaffing of beer to celebrate.
On Saturday / Sunday 9th - 10th May 2015 in Appleton le Moors, North Yorkshire (YO62 6TF) a group of 12 volunteers will attempt to repeat the feat - this time with three Alpacas (and with a less gruesome supper afterwards!) all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
We will start by shearing the Alpacas and through the course of the weekend will card, spin and knit the wool to end up with a finished sweater that will be raffled-off at the village pub, The Moors Inn on Sunday evening.
The shearing will start at on Saturday and will be open to the public for a small admission fee.
The main event will be held in le Moors Village Hall and throughout the weekend there will be refreshments, music and visiting Alpacas to see out on the Village Hall lawn.
On Sunday evening there will be a Chilli and Tortilla supper at the Moors Inn (£6.95 per head - with a proportion of the proceeds going to Macmillan) when the raffle will be drawn. To book call 01751 417435
You can support this unusual event by coming to the shearing or dropping into the Village hall at any time throughout the weekend or by sponsoring us through this page.
