Running to raise awareness to raise money to #EndMalaria

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
My brother, Iain, worked as a bird guide near Mkuze, a small town in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Iain devoted his life to nature and to the environment, sharing with others his passion – most especially, for birds.
He loved spending time with people in the African bush, talking avidly with birding enthusiasts or budding novices. All that mattered to Iain was that he was in the bush and that people were surrounded
by nature and enriched by the experience of being there.
During the evening of Sunday 3 January 1999, my father received a call to say Iain had been rushed to hospital in a malarial coma. He had been misdiagnosed a few days earlier and did not receive the
treatment that may have saved his life. Sadly, Iain died five days later, our family at his bedside.
I live a privileged life, I’ve been well educated and have had many incredible opportunities to travel, meet extraordinary people and experience so much. Because of this, I have a responsibility
to the memory of my brother, to my parents and to those affected by malaria to leverage what is great about my life to make a difference for those who are at risk of this terrible disease.
