Story
Every September we celebrate the memory of our daughter Anna. However, this year she would be 30 years old and we would like to use this milestone to raise money for Action on Pre-Eclampsia.
Sadly in 1990 when Katrina was 27 weeks pregnant, she was extremely ill with pre-eclampsia and, heartbreakingly, Anna died.
After a subsequent miscarriage and thanks to APEC, we had a consultation with Professor Chris Redman in Oxford.
As a result of Chris Redman’s advice, we had a healthy baby, Sophie, in 1993 even though Katrina had pre-eclampsia again.
Therefore, without APEC we would not be where we are today and we ask you to help us to support them.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Action on Pre-Eclampsia
Pre-eclampsia is a disease of pregnancy which can be fatal and affects 70,000 women in the UK. Between 2015 and 2017, 5 women in the UK died from pre-eclampsia and it is responsible for the deaths of approximately 600 babies every year. Pre-eclampsia is not preventable but can be carefully managed with correct training and by raising awareness of the dangers and signs.
APEC’s aims are to:
· Educate and advise health professionals about the prevalence, nature and risks of pre-eclampsia.
· Campaign for greater public awareness of the signs and symptoms of the disease.
· Campaign for action to improve methods of detection and treatment.
· Provide support and advice for women and families affected by pre-eclampsia.
· Reduce deaths of women and babies.
APEC are currently fundraising to create online resources:
· A new e-Learning course and study day.
· A YouTube channel with short practical films on treatment and diagnosis.
· Increased helpline/online support hours.
