Story

TWO half Marathons – ONE Month – ONE Charity – ONE Donation!!

Since the start of 2012 I committed to getting fit and all the trimmings with it! Anyone that knows me has seen the change in my health and happiness, and everyone’s support and kind words have been so appreciated and encouraged me to stay on this virtuous circle! Having recently run 10k in 1:01:28 I’m having to up the stakes somewhat! I have committed to 2 x half marathons in one month! In doing so I am also looking for your support and encouragement to give back to the environment we live in, and the nature and wildlife that surrounds us, through WWF-UK.

I only ask for one donation for the two events, no matter how big or small, please read on to see what your donations will support. x

The exercise I have tackled this year has been amongst the elements, whether UK or abroad (and rarely out of rain this year!) but never stop appreciating the  environment surrounding me. On top of the two half marathons, I am committing to cycle every day (loosing the car fumes!) and run long distance 2/3 times a week for 10 weeks until my first -  Royal Parks ½ Marathon on the 7 October then again in the Run To The Beat ½ Marathon on the 28 October.

Why WWF-UK!

WWF is the world leading independent conservation organisation. They're tackling the most serious environmental challenges facing the planet, building a future where people and nature thrive together. That's why WWF is passionate about sharing the planet's resources more sustainably, taking action on climate change and protecting endangered wildlife and their habitats.

Here are just a few examples of what our fundraising efforts could buy:

£25 – would pay for five fuel-efficient stoves for five families in China's Minshan Mountains – home to the giant panda.

£50 – could provide the weekly salary for two field assistants studying humpback whales at Bahia Malaga off the Pacific coast of Colombia.

£100 – could pay for one rhino translocation crate – used when moving rhinos into safer, more protected areas.

£300 – would pay for the training of one local youth to become a turtle tour guide on the nesting beaches of Costa Rica.

£300 - Could pay for one deep-search metal detector for anti-poaching patrols to use to detect snares set by poachers in tiger reserves in India

£500 - Could pay for the purchase and installation of an infrared camera trap (including film and batteries) to help monitor tiger numbers in Bardia National Park, Nepal

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action - tackling the urgent threat of climate change (with our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and promoting sustainable use of resources by helping to change the way we live.

THE PANDA IS MOST DEFINITELY MAKING ME DO IT!!!
