Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am part of a 5 man team, we are kayaking from North Stainly near Rippon to the Humber estuary. On this journey we will kayak along flat water, as well as tackling rapids and weirs, the journey is 85miles long and we will be covering this distance in 4 days.....we will also be towing our homes.....tents, that is! Along with our food supplies and cooking equipment to get us through the trip!
We are all raising money for charity, my charity is Help for Heroes
Here's what they do......
help for heroes spend every penny possible on making grants that aim to provide practical, direct support for our wounded. They have support centres for rehabilitation, provide person plans for those whose injuries mean that they will have to move on into civilian life. They helped to set up a new adaptive adventure training team called Battle Back, this is to ensure that the wounded get a chance to ‘feel the wind in the face and the sun on the back’ through adrenaline sports. They are working with an inspirational group of volunteers called Troop Aid who supplied goodies to the hospital at Selly Oak to make a wounded patient's life a little better and this is to name but a few...
Here's what they are are about.......
"Help for heroes is about our men and women of the Armed Forces. It’s about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it’s about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It’s about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It’s about Ben, it’s about Steven and Andy and Mark, it’s about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes."
