Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
It all started with a cycle ride in the Peak District when I sustained head, spine, shoulder and chest injuries after coming off my bike between Snake Pass and Glossop. Admitted to the trauma ward and Critical Care Unit at Salford Royal and in the need of the care and support of a great many people, later complications eventually saw me transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital.
I benefitted enormously from the continuity of care and the wonderful support of so many people who helped me to navigate the ups and downs to where I am today, committing to a new challenge in support of the NorthCare charity that helps fund innovative equipment, education, research and wellbeing activities for staff and patients alike across the Salford Care Organisation and the hospitals in Bury, Oldham and Rochdale.
As a former trauma patient, I want to make a contribution to the fundraising efforts in support of the RAPTOR Theatre, that will be located in the new Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital, being built on the Salford Royal Hospital site, that will treat those with life-threatening trauma injuries by performing scans, X-rays, and surgical procedures all in one place. This will save precious time and reduce risk by ensuring patients don’t need to be moved to different locations to be cared for.
The RAPTOR Theatre will prioritise multi-trauma patients (those with multiple complex injuries), giving them the best possible chance of survival. This kind of care is above and beyond the NHS standard, which is why I am embarking on this challenge to help make RAPTOR a reality.
I am aiming to run/walk 1200 miles from Lands End to John o' Groats, aligning this with the Great Manchester Run scheduled for the 21st May 23. My end-to-end challenge is a personal journey but also one that I hope will inspire others who have themselves incurred trauma injuries or wish to support our brilliant NHS staff by contributing to a great cause.
