Story
On 16th Jine 2017 I survived a type A aortic dissection, a rare and life threatening condition. I was one of the lucky ones as the condition was recognised and treated with great outcomes. Others are not so fortunate as AD is often mistaken for other conditions and resulting delays in treatment can be fatal.
Five years on, by the grace of God and the skill of the surgeons I am still here, living my best life and grateful for every moment. I want to celebrate my fitness and give something back.. and hence this life affirming challenge which will take place in June and July and will include 5 very different physical challenges. Watch this space for details and updates!
About the charity:
Aortic Dissection Awareness started life as a small group of people who had suffered an aortic dissection and found themselves with inadequate information about their condition and a complete lack of knowledge of fellow sufferers. Survival rates were extremely low.In the intervening years, this small group became an unincorporated association that has grown to have in excess of 700 members and became a CIO in April 2022.For a number of years, we have led the organisation of the annual Aortic Dissection Day in the UK, which is held as close to 19th September each year and is awarded to an institution that is recognised by patients as doing excellent work in the field of aortic dissection.
