Hi everyone,

Job done. As many of you know, I cycled from London to Amsterdam this weekend to help raise money for my amazing charity, Barts and the London Charity. All to raise money for a Cyber Knife at Barts Cancer Centre; a piece of equipment that will revolutionise cancer treatment.

 

The trip was amazing. I had such a good time despite eating a record amount of banana's, the cycling was pretty hardcore and definitely made me appreciate all those hours spent in the gym.  The route down to Dover was littered with annoying mountains that got the heart rate going. I jest it wasn't quite the Pyrennes but there were alot of long steep hills.  North France and Belgium was flat as a pancake and a welcome change after the first leg though it is home to quite possibly the most boring landscape I've ever seen. By the end of the Friday, no one had slept since we left on Thursday evening and after 200 miles in the saddle we all passed out in a cosy tent. the last stage through to Amsterdam was great, nice scenery, good banter and a glass of champers to end it all.  

So all of this to support an fantastic piece of kit that will save so many lives. The Cyber Knife is a state-of-the-art piece of robotic equipment that offers a pain-free alternative to surgery. It uses pencil beams of radiation which can be directed at any part of the body via a robotic arm. It targets the tumour with multiple beams of high-energy radiation, destroying abnormal tissue without damaging surrounding areas. The treatment is so accurate that it's now possible to treat tumours previously thought to be inoperable. Barts Cancer Centre is a centre of excellence and with this equipment, it will be able to treat more people and receive more referrals.
