At North Berwick station waiting for train back to Edinburgh. Ran 21 miles here from my house. One long run closer to Algarve Marathon in 5 weeks.
How I ended up entering the Algarve Marathon:
After narrowly missing a PB in Paris in April I sincerely thought my marathon shoes would be in hibernation for the rest of the year. I envisaged spending the rest of the spring/summer playing golf and relaxing in beer gardens (when not at work!). I also had a week in the Algarve in October for more golf, beer and relaxing to look forward to.
BUT, I began to miss the buzz of the long run and needed a new goal. After a short while searching the web for a suitable event I discovered there was a marathon on in the Algarve the day after we arrive for our October hols! Brilliant - kill lots of birds with one stone - marathon at the beginning of the holiday leaving the rest of the week free for golf, Sagres, Super Bock and relaxing in the sunshine. Not convinced this is aligned with my wife's idea of the perfect holiday however.
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in the summer of 2006 and do what I can to help the charity raise awareness and funds to support those affected and finance research into a cure.
Crohn's and Colitis UK aims to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the most common forms being Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Together these conditions affect about 250,000 people in the United Kingdom.
Both conditions come under the heading of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). This is because the intestines become swollen, inflamed and ulcerated. Symptoms can include pain in the abdomen, weight loss, diarrhoea (sometimes with blood or mucus) and tiredness. The symptoms will vary in severity from one person to another and may flare up or improve unpredictably. Many patients will experience some periods of remission, when they are free from symptoms. Some people may also experience swollen joints, mouth ulcers, inflamed eyes or rashes on their body.
