Story
Just thought you'd like to know - I DID IT!!!!
I made it round the 26.2 miles in just under 6 hours (5:53:10 to be precise) and ran (yes ran) across the finish line.
The first 10 miles were fun believe it or not. I started off right at the front thanks to my celebrity status ;-) battling with the likes of Kate Lawler in her knickers and Buster the 101 year old who tried to sprint off the start after a smoke!
My boyfriend, Mum and Sister were at mile 7 and seeing them brought me to tears and scared them into thinking I was ready to pull out! They then spent the day racing round London to see me 3 more times before the finish - amazing support.
I made it to 10 miles in 1:55 and then to 15 miles in 3:15 - speaking to Setanta Sports News live on air several times and being yelled at by spectators to get off the phone!
After 15 miles it was just pain. We'd already been soaked by rain once and then at mile 20 we were greeted by a hail storm. I was glad I'd held onto my jacket but it didn't help much. Freezing.
Every time I tried to run my knees threatened to seize up - so I settled for a walk/shuffle run strategy. I'd seen lots of people getting treatment from the St John's people and was determined not to have to be one of them.
After I left the Embankment I was on the phone to work again giving them the last report from my shuffle towards the finish when I spotted a familiar face in the running pack - David Williams from Ladbrokes. He looked in as much pain as me so we joined forces and ran towards the finish and crossed the line together.
It was such an amazing experience, emotional and painful but I'm still on a high this morning despite not being able to walk properly!
So far I have managed to raise £1,735.00 for HEART UK and know there is still more coming in. So thank you so much for your donation and you support. I thought of all of you on the way round and of all the money we've made for charity and the good that it will do.
THANK YOU ALL - Couldn't have done it without you.
Ax.
