Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
I'm running the London Marathon this year. It's my first marathon and I'm incredibly lucky to be able to participate, particularly in the year of the London 2012 Olympics.
A few years ago I was quite severely injured in a motorcycle accident. During my recovery I was told there were quite a few things I would no longer be able to do, running being one of many on the list.
My mum was a continual strength throughout that time. She is a continual strength in every situation and it is for her that the charity I'm running for, and the recipient of your donations, is Willen Hospice.
Their dedicated team provide specialist care to people whose illness is longer responding to curative treatment. This includes dealing with the physical pain and symptoms of their illness, as well as providing care and emotional support to both the patients and their families.
You can watch an incredible short film about Willen Hospice here.
I've been training for about 6 months now, and with 5 weeks to go at the time of writing this it's unbeliveable how quickly it's come around. The farthest I've ran in a previous event is 13 miles (the Plymouth Half marathon) so the 26 miles of the London Marathon are certainly a daunting challenge.
Lessons learned so far;
1) Good running shoes are worth the investment
2) There are muscles in feet that I never knew existed
3) Never underestimate the value of stretching!
