Story
Hello everyone,
In April 2010 I will be attempting to run the Paris Marathon with a few friends. I have decided to try and raise as much money as possible for the charity Myeloma UK.
As most of you know around six or seven years ago my father was diagnosed with cancer that affects one's bone marrow. The disease is generally considered to be incurable however it can be put into remission if the patient is lucky. Thankfully my father was lucky and had a bone marrow match in his sister which allowed a transplant.
Unfortunately many people are not so lucky and don't get to the remission stage. The charity that I am running for does exceptional work for people that suffer from the disease. It is not that common (only 4000 new UK cases per year) and so I think it is even more important to try and support the charity as it doesn't get a lot of exposure. So you can get an idea of what the charity does, their main activities are:
- Fund research into finding a cure
- Provide a 24 hour support line for people affected by Myeloma
- Provide support groups
- Provide support to health care professionals dealing with the illness.
Any donation that you can make is most appreciated, it goes to a really good cause that I have seen hugely benefit people directly.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
Alex
