Story

Dear Friend,

Hi, how are you doing? I’m Agness, nice to e-meet you! I wish I could thank you in person  🙏🏻 for stopping by and reading about my fundraising project, a beautiful incentive I recently became part of.

Early this July, one of my best friends, Mikey, introduced me to URBOND. It’s a charity based in Portsmouth, the UK that provides educational support and resources to children in the Republic of Guinea 🇬🇳 who would otherwise go without. Mikey has been an active member of the URBOND Charity for the past 3 years. Hearing about his work and the impact it has on children in one of the world’s poorest countries, inspired me to get out of my comfort zone here in Poland and get involved with URBOND’s Child Education Programme as well.

Guinea remains one of the poorest countries in the whole world with almost 70% of children, aged 15 and over, who can’t read or write. The local schools need support 🏫 to make improvements and The URBOND charity comes to the rescue.

How we are Involved
One of the URBOND Child Education Programme goals is to improve access to primary education within the communities. As part of this effort, a team of 15 volunteers, including myself, will be travelling to the Republic of Guinea on the 10th October this year. We will be based in Dubreka, meet the local children with their parents and help build a Library and a Computer Room 🖥 for them at the Ecole Primaire Public d'Application school, which will benefit 700+ children each year. 😍

This school is over-crowded and has suffered from a high turnover of teachers and low pass rates for its students. Also, It broke my heart to hear that some kids from surrounding villages have to walk up to 10 km every day crossing dangerous water just to study there. I can only imagine how many of them are forced to stay home because of that. As a child, I was lucky and blessed enough to have easy access to education and I was at my school in less than 5 minutes every morning. While I can’t resonate with the struggle of traveling long distances to my school, I remember exactly how much joy and happiness it brought me to be there, learn about the world, explore and play with my classmates. I sincerely wish the same wonderful experiences to every child in Dubreka and I’m here right now to make this wish come true with your help I’m so grateful for.

How You can Help Us
I’m currently raising money to support the Dubreka school and its students in rising to these challenges. If we could together set up this computer/library room, we would allow these kids to study online so they have access to all of the educational sources out there. This would significantly improve the educational opportunities for many children in the area both now and in the future.

The wonderful news is that the pass rates have increased from 44% to 70.8% during the 2 years of the URBOND Child Education Programme efforts.

While I cover all of my travel costs and donate a portion of my money to this cause, they will need more to make it sustainable. Therefore I would like to ask you for support. If you wish to contribute financially to support our cause, I’d be very grateful. Please hit the Donate Now button and your contribution will go directly to the URBOND charity.

If you wish to contribute IT equipment, please message my best friend Mikey at: mike.lukanowski@gmail.com and he will be more than happy to connect with you.

Thank you so much for all of your contributions 🤗 from me, the entire team of URBOND and all the kids in Dubreka! We all appreciate you and wish you a wonderful day.

Thank you,
Agness

P.S. This trip to the Republic of Guinea is my way of giving back and making a difference in the world. I want to challenge myself and others to do something wholehearted and meaningful when exploring this beautiful world.
