Story

The competition has now finished, however it would be great to still donate. The final mileage was 6990miles from Okehampton to Bishkek!

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page! We are embarking on an overland adventure to Indonesia and (mainly overland) back to the UK.

The first leg commences on 1st September and will be a road trip in our little VW Golf to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We envisage this journey taking 2 months, taking us across Europe, through Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, across the Caspian Sea and onto 'the stans' in Central Asia.

So the big question is, 'how many miles will our car travel?' We will be able to afford small repairs, but a big bill would be the end of the car's journey... To enter our sweepstake, make a donation below, and remember to make a note of your guess in the message section of your donation. The person guessing the closest number of miles to that the car travels en route to Kyrgyzstan, will win a £50 prize.

Full disclosure:

The car of choice is an 18 year old VW Golf V5, with a 2.3 litre engine. We are the third owner, it's travelled a mere 156,000 miles and is in pretty good condition.

However it does have a warning light on the dashboard (apparently just an O2 sensor), and the driver's heated seat doesn't work. There is a bit of a squeal from something under the bonnet and apparently the one of the ball joints is on its way out.

While acquainting ourselves with the car in the UK, we have already had a few mishaps: a puncture and one of the front windows randomly dropping to the bottom of the car door.

All in all, the car drives smoothly, feels comfortable and is definitely up for an adventure!

North Dartmoor Search & Rescue do a cracking job keeping us all safe. The Team are all unpaid volunteers, trained to the highest standards to rescue lost or injured people, both on and off the moor. They are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. An organisation close to Adam's heart, him having been part of the team for almost 5 years.

Thank you for supporting this great charity!
