Dear All,
Crazily at 4 am on Saturday 3rd November a group of 5 of us will embark on walking the 41 miles from Bridlington to York Minster. Please read on to find out why.
A year ago the school that George attends had the devastating news that one their pupils, Lydia was terminally ill with a rare form of cancer. The School immediately put plans in place to help support Lydia's family as well as Sheffield Children's Hospital where Lydia receives her treatment. As Paul & I attended the Butterfly Ball and had a wonderful time, little did we realise that we would find ourselves in a similar situation as we too would be touched by Cancer.
As many of you know, our little boy Zach was diagnosed with renal cancer in May. It's known as a Wilms Tumour. It's quite rare, with only 80 British children being diagnosed with it every year. Fortunately, the consultant explained we had caught it early and after a scary few months it was staged as a category 2. Zach had 4 weeks of Chemotherapy before the surgeons would operate. When they removed the tumour it was the size of a grapefruit and weighed a staggering 600g. Even though he didn't look himself he recovered from this 8 1/2 hr surgery remarkably well. We had 4 days in the high dependancy unit before he was fit enough to go back onto the ward and then home.
We now find ourselves in the gruelling 6 months of 'mop up' chemotherapy which makes Zach poorly, but we know it's his best chance of a full recovery and therefore we are in it for the long haul.
Cancer is undoubtedly life changing. We have met some incredible people along the way who have been truly inspirational and hugely generous. So this is our time now to give something back to the amazing people that have touched our lives so greatly.
If you could spare a couple of minutes and a few quid please click onto our just giving link below or text OUCH51 £5 to 70070 and hopefully watch our sponsorship grow with every mile we walk on Saturday.
