Story
As a Young Roots Trustee, I hear amazing stories all the time about the young people the charity supports. All of them have abundant talent, interests and passions across a variety of areas. This donation page is to raise sponsorship for Young Roots, on behalf of a keen runner with lived experience who is running the ASICS 10K to help increase awareness for the charity and genuinely enjoys running!
But first, an introduction. Young Roots works with young refugees and asylum seekers aged 11-25, to improve their wellbeing and fulfil their potential, through one-to-one Casework, English language mentoring, youth and sporting activities, trips and expert therapeutic and legal advice. In 2021, we supported over 739 young people and will see this figure grow to over 800 by the end of 2022. Through donations like yours, you will be supporting our work and ensuring young people feel believed, heard and safe.
I would be thrilled if you would help me raise the sponsorship money for the event on behalf our keen runner, who is also seeking sanctuary in the UK with his family and originally was in touch with us for support. He is currently practising 10k's regularly and is really looking forward to the race. His quickest time so far is 49 minutes!
Your donations will go towards funding Young Roots and the young people they serve to better access their services, for instance:
- £5 could pay for travel for a young person to attend our youth activities or meetings with their solicitor
- £10 could pay for data for a young person so they can stay connected with their friends and learn English online
- £25 could pay for a session with a caseworker to make sure a young person gets the support they need
- £50 could pay for an interpreter to support a young person during an asylum interview
- £100 could pay for half-day with a counsellor for young people in need of mental health support
- £400 could pay for a day trip (orienteering, cultural or educational) for newly arrived young people
The world is going through a turbulent time, with the numbers of displaced young people growing at a distressing pace. Young Roots' work is more important than it has ever been!
