We received nearly 1.9k votes to nominate them as our Charity of the Year for 2022 and are so pleased to be able to support them, and will do so in many ways this year! 

A team challenge is always on the cards when we fundraise! So on Saturday 9 July, our team set out to complete the challenging circular 44 mile trail, The Wold Rangers Way. It was the perfect route for us, with it passing through Thixendale, where we started and ended the walk. Passing through the natural beauty of the Wolds where we live and work, we uncovered amazing chalk landscapes and dry valleys, saw stunning wildlife and enjoyed a stop off or two in market towns and ancient villages.

With an early start of 5.30am our first team of walkers left Thixendale. We split the 44 mile route into 4 sections, where we stopped, re-fuelled and swapped over walkers. The minimum distance taken on was 11 miles, with some of the team walking a whopping 33 miles! We finished 17 hours later back at the pub in Thixendale!

It was a seriously warm day, and the team, as ever, were amazing. We are so proud of everyone who took part, and so grateful to everyone who has already donated, but we'd like to raise event more for this amazing local charity to ensure that Ryedale Special Families can offer the full range of services needed to support their families going forward.

This fantastic independent charity began in the early 1990’s when a group of 20 families of disabled children started to meet in their own homes in order to share challenges and experiences, as well as offering mutual support to each other. 

Although they have grown significantly since those early years, their fundamental principles have not changed. Today they support the families and young adults with disabilities, additional needs and illness throughout Ryedale, and their work falls within four areas – information, advice and guidance, social groups, 1 to 1 flexible care and family activities. 

The charity have managed to buy a plot of land and are looking to raise £1m to enable them to build new premises so they can expand the range of services they currently offer across the region.
