Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This Sunday, 21st June 2020 marks the 6th International Day of Yoga by the United Nations, and this year’s theme is yoga at home, yoga in the family.

https://www.un.org/en/observances/yoga-day

This theme has been chosen to highlight that whilst being asked to remain home for the Covid-19 Pandemic, yoga practitioners have turned to a home practice to help alleviate uncertainty, isolation, anxiety and to maintain mental and physical health. The positive impact has been huge as yoga has, and continues to, provide a means of alleviating personal and familial suffering.

With this in mind I am hosting an event this weekend dedicated to yoga at home, and centred on supporting mental health.

On Friday 19th June 2020 at 7pm I will be hosting a donation based Yin & Yoga Nidra class via Zoom. The session will calming, soothing, and very relaxing to ease any worries, anxiety or stress - or to simply ease into the weekend, leaving the week behind.

Yin yoga is a very still, and passive yoga practice that involves holding poses for a few minutes at a time, so you can simply surrender to the mat. This practice will be followed by a guided meditation, or "yogic sleep" (Yoga Nidra) which has been designed by the very talented and experienced teacher Shaura Hall specifically for vulnerable minds, however is deeply relaxing for all.

All proceeds will be donated directly to Richmond Borough MIND, the charity who work for better mental health and support vulnerable minds locally. It goes without saying their work in this time is critical, yet their fundraising ability is more limited - so anything you can donate will be going to a great cause and greatly appreciated.

To find out more about their work please visit https://www.rbmind.org/support-us/fundraise-for-us/past-campaigns/

Reminder: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

No previous experience of yoga is needed and the Zoom link & password for the class will be issued to the email address provided in the donation.

Special thanks to Heather Mason & The Minded Institute for their encouragement and training in Yoga Nidra for Mental Health specifically.
