Witnessing a loved one undergoing a terminal diagnosis can not only be a truly negative life-changing experience but one of the most distressing times in an individual’s life. People often face situations that feel inescapable and having a helping hand or “Ray of Hope”  can truly help to alleviate the emotions associated with the loss of a loved one.  Countless young children are left in isolation after the passing of their parents, which has become a pervasive issue in rural, underserved areas like Georgia.  Seeing this issue firsthand during my time as a hospice volunteer in Albany, Ga, I witnessed countless heartbreaking situations with children being left with no family or guidance after the passing of their only family member, allowing me to recognize the unmet need for bereavement care for young children whose parents are undergoing hospice treatment. 

During this time my cousin, Raj, a future D1 soccer player and individual with a bright future was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, ultimately passing away six short months later . Seeing the profound effect of his diagnosis not only on his sister who developed PTSD and depression but also on myself, as he was one of my best friends and mentors in life, allowed me to see the parallels for psychosocial support for children. 

Thus, the Ray of Hope was founded. The goal of our organization is to empower family members of terminally ill patients by providing bereavement and grief support to improve their overall well-being. Every child deserves the privilege to live a prosperous life and have adequate access to health resources to maximize their livelihood. The Ray of Hope is an avenue to ensure this happens.
