We are asking for your help to support one of the cultural groups we have worked with longest in Africa
The Wodaabe Nomads, famed for their incredible all male charm and beauty pageants, are suffering greatly due to the restrictions imposed by Covid 19. The Nomads, who typically roam the Sahel of North Africa are being contained and the markets where they would trade their animals are closed, as are the borders for them to move to their next destination.
We have travelled with, lived with and photographed the Wodaabe Nomads since the 1970’s and visited them again only last year. We are in touch with several of their tribal elders, in the Sahel of Niger who asking for help to support his people.
The price they could expect for their herds has fallen by over 400% while prices for the grain they need to feed their animals has shot up. Many of the markets are closed and the Wodaabe are not able to make money, to buy the scarce food available. They and their animals are facing a desperate situation.
A sack of millet, the staple food to feed a family which cost 15Euro/$16.50USD now costs 50Euro/$55USD - this would provide food for a family for several weeks.
We are sending donations to help these Wodaabe Nomads - if you would like to join us and help keep this wonderful community safe and together then please join us and donate on the link below.
