Ever wondered why Muslims fast? why it is a time for spiritual reflection and growth?

We invite colleagues to fast with us in order to experience the essence of Ramadan and use the money spent on lunch and donate it to those less fortunate.

Everyone is invited 

Over the last five years, West Midlands Association Of Muslim Police have invited colleagues, friends and family to join in with fasting for a day, in support of Muslim colleagues and donating the money normally spent on lunch to a nominated charity. 

This year we are seeking to widen this invitation to include as many people as we can in all organisations, groups and families to take the day to fast and in doing so support one of the key elements to Ramadan, which is to be reflective of one’s own state in comparison to that of the less fortunate and give to those in need. 

Thus, understanding the challenges faced by the less fortunate. A principle where less is ultimately more. 

A small donation 

Donate whats typically spent on lunch (£5 or more) to charity. Our nominated charity this year will be ACEF – a small West Midlands Charity who support an amazing school in the slums of Nairobi, called Brainhouse.  

The school takes in young street and vulnerable children – who before joining the school - spent their days searching through waste heaps for something to eat or drink, some even prostituting themselves, other committing crimes to earn,  but a few coins to buy food and water.  Education and safety the last thing on their minds.

ACEF working with the leadership team at Brainhouse Academy is giving 900 young people who attend the school, what every child should have – their dignity, their safety, food, education and above all a future.

Every £5 which is donated here, will help feed a young person for a month and make a significant difference to their daily life – taking them away from searching through waste for food and giving them a life changing opportunity of being fed and educated.

When can I start? 

Our experience will run throughout Ramadan from  around the 22 March to 22 April 2023 – you can select any day within this period to fast.

Join us in coming together as a community, sharing in what it takes to fast for a whole day from dawn to dusk and donating to ensure those who have very little, have something.
