Story
For the third year running, The Wizards of Drivel Podcast is supporting foodbanks in Stoke-on-Trent.
Unfortunately, foodbanks have become invaluable resources in modern Britain. There were 4.3 million children living in poverty in the UK in 2019-20. That's 31 per cent of children, or nine in a classroom of 30.
Work does not provide a guaranteed route out of poverty in the UK. 75 per cent of children growing up in poverty live in a household where at least one person works. Often these people don’t have many people sticking up for them. It took a Premier League footballer to hold politicians to account for their failures in feeding the poorest children.
In a year where families felt the effects of the pandemic in their livelihoods, we are reminded about the extent of the problem, and the role foodbanks play in helping those who need that help. This is the case in Stoke-on-Trent.
Last year we raised an incredible £6,000. We’re not aiming to beat that this year - in fact - we’re not thinking in terms of targets. We’re just asking - if it’s at all possible to spare it - if folk could donate what they can to support this vital service.
