Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our RotaKids JustGiving page.
Most of us have had a difficult year, due to the coronavirus, but we are lucky to be back at school and to have everything that we need, unlike poor children in Africa.
Our Vice President, Jasmine, visited Zimbabwe in 2019 with her parents who founded the charity Creating Better Futures. When she came back from Africa, our Headteacher asked her to talk at the school assembly. Our school learnt about the similarities and differences between the orphans there and children in the UK.
Although the children were taught the same subjects, the small schools had limited resources, and some children couldn't afford the school fees. This means that they would be sent away from school and have to work in other people's homes and fields instead of receiving an education. The children all walk long distances to get to school without having breakfast. Jasmine helped to give out their food at school, which was porridge in the morning and maheu in the afternoon. It looked like boring, basic food, but the children were extremely grateful for it.
Since the lockdown, the children had not been able to attend school, and they did not have online lessons like us. They also could not have their school meals and some of them lost their loved ones. Only recently have the children returned to school and we want to raise money to provide 1000 children with their school meals for a week.
It would be good if we can carry on supporting them for a long time. If anyone would like to give monthly to the charity, sponsor a child or volunteer, please email the charity founder at dorothy@creatingbetterfutures.org.uk.
