Story

Dear all, Ruth and I would like to give a huge thank you to everyone that has contributed to the cause, whether that was running on the day or your donation, we have been blown away by the response and cannot believe how much has been raised, it is amazing. We haven't been able to respond to everyone directly but we have read all the messages and it means a lot so thank you so much. Lots of love Scott and Ruth X

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A special person in my life is suffering from Motor Neurone Disease, namely, my wife Ruth. MND Scotland provide amazing support and we would like to give something back to them as well as contributing towards the current research programme into cause, treatment and cure.

We first noticed that something wasn't right at the start of 2017, shortly after the birth of our first child, Anna. On occasion, Ruth's speech was slurred however at the time we assumed it was probably a side affect of the birth and would either go away or be treatable. The NHS conducted a number of tests over several months and towards the end of the year gave us the most devastating news it is possible to receive. Ruth's illness was terminal and her life expectancy had now shortened dramatically. We were informed that the condition is progressive and that there is no cure, and very limited medication. The only thing we can do is try and enjoy life while it is still physically possible. This has been incredibly hard to deal with emotionally. We are trying to carry on as normal but this is becoming increasingly more difficult.

We are lucky that we have many friends and at the end of May a group of us will be running the Edinburgh Marathon and Marathon Relay to raise money for MND Scotland.

Update 12th March: Thank you so so much for all the donations so far. We have both been absolutely blown away and overwhelmed by the response, it's been incredible. We have already raised far more than we ever expected but have decided to raise the target to an ambitious £10,000. Please continue to spread the word and thank you again for your contribution. X

The teams are as follows:

Marathon: Scott Williamson and Peter Graham

Relay 1: Caroline Mains, Fionna O'Leary, Ed Mains, Tim O'Leary

Relay 2: Shelagh Considine, Lynn Gibson, Lyndsey Fischer, Claire McCraw

Relay 3: Ruth Williamson, Nina Graham, Anne Brunton, Emma Marriott

Relay 4: Rhian Monro, Ashleigh Madjitey, Gareth Monro, Rodney Madjitey

Relay 5: Cara Berkley, Elise Raynor, Angus Roberts, Nick Fletcher

Your contributions are gratefully received. We are hoping to smash the target so please give generously.
