I was saddened to learn of my nephew inheriting the Sickle Cell trait. Sickle Cell disorder affects mainly African and Afro Caribbean people. This blood disorder causes the red blood cells to have a “Sickle” shape from time to time and this odd shape means the red blood cells will not function properly as an oxygen and iron carrier. Poor red blood oxygen within the thin blood vessels causes severe pain in the body resulting in long term conditions  I.e. specialist eye care, care for maintaining healthy bones, regular blood transfusions and community and hospital care for other health complications.  Stressful events, lack of oxygen,  very cold or hot weather can trigger a painful "crisis" which can  often result in long hospital stays.

I realised that not enough information, education, and media spotlight are given to this long term condition, therefore, it is my desire to raise awareness and assist individuals / families with the sickle cell disorder.

If you could sponsor me with as little or as much as you can, I’d be so grateful.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will be doing the Tandem Parachute jump for my favourite charity The Sickle Cell Society on November 15th.
