Our 1000k October Challenge!

We (Lola and Alison) decided to set ourselves a challenge to support our mental and physical well-being, at a time when so many people are struggling to cope with the constant changes and challenges caused by Covid.

We decided to walk 1000k between us during the month of October (500k each). This is approximately 16.2k a day each (or 10 miles). There have been numerous challenges faced along the way, including injuries and cows (Lola), and a full time job and family duties (Alison). The experience has been fabulous enjoying socially distanced walks with friends and reducing our use of our cars. We have supported each other daily and encouraged each other remotely. We have also found some time to do a few walks together, including Sheffield Round Walk in 4 hours and 30 minutes.

We wanted to raise some money for charities that mean a lot to us both.

Firstly, Edale Mountain Rescue team who work tirelessly to rescue lost, injured and missing people in the Peak District. They are one of the busiest mountain rescue teams in the country and do a fabulous job (this link for donations).

Secondly, the Alzheimers Society, as Alison sadly lost her dad to Alzheimers in 2019 (the page for donations is on a separate link for this charity).

We have chosen to wait until now to share our fundraising with you, as we were concerned that we might have to isolate and so would be unable to complete our challenges. We also didn’t know what injuries we might incur along the way! With 400k completed each and less than a week to go we are very nearly there! Fingers crossed we are able to cross that finishing line this Saturday.

If you are able to contribute to our Just Giving page we would be very appreciative. However, if you are unable to do this, then thank you for reading our story.

We hope that, by sharing our joint challenge, we have inspired you to enjoy the great outdoors and support a friend or two through these challenging times.
