Story

Our Digital Leaders have recommended that the school purchase Minecraft Education Edition. They have surveyed pupils and found over 99% of pupils asked agree!

Minecraft Education Edition is a special school-based version of the game that pupils can access from home through their school Microsoft 365 account and parents can learn more about it here:
Westfield Junior School - Minecraft for Education

"To prove how much we all want this, we are asking pupils to spend 24 hours without screens," explained one of our digital leaders.

At 2pm on Friday 8th July, teachers will turn off all screens in the classrooms - computers, tablets, whiteboards - and we are asking children try to stay off screens until 2pm on the Saturday.
(families may wish to slightly adjust the timing of the completion of the 24 hours if that doesn't work - if you've got a family trip to the cinema planned we don't want to ruin it! We would also like to point out however we are not responsible for the cancellation of the cinema in the park events at the St Ives Carnival and Music Festival at Hill Rise Park, but that may be a reason to join in now!)

Perhaps some parents would like to join in too!

That's no computers, laptops, tablets, phones, or TV for a whole 24 hours.

If you are able to sponsor your child a small amount to take part, the digital leaders would be really grateful. If you are not able to contribute at this time, we completely understand, but please still join in the the no screen day if you can. We'll be discussing how spending 24 hours without screens has made us feel or behave differently the following week when we're back at school.

The number of Minecraft licences we buy may depend on how much we raise. If the funds exceed the cost of the licences, additional funds raised will be used by the WSA to support the school with other fundraising projects for the school including library improvements, new books, play equipment etc.

Thank you for your amazing support!

Any parents with any specific questions about Minecraft Education Edition can contact our Computing Lead Mr Wilkinson on swilkinson@westfield.cambs.sch.uk
