Story
We’re Alexis Dowd and Ursula Wood, co-founders of Wellbeing Umbrella and due to our own personal difficulties finding wellness solutions, we understand the financial and awareness barriers to finding and receiving wellbeing solutions and treatments to help people on their healing journey.
As a result, we are on a mission to help more people access the wellbeing choice and variety they deserve by raising awareness and funding through our collaborative No One-Size-Fits-All online wellness events and Pay-it-Forward Workplace Wellness Events. One group of people who are close to our heart and we wish to support are women and children of domestic violence and abuse.
Why We Help
The reality of domestic abuse and violence is that it has an enormously damaging health, social and economic consequences on the individuals who experience it.
Mental health has a long-lasting effect on those who experience domestic abuse with high rates of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, insomnia, lower levels of self-esteem and life satisfaction.
Sadly, the long-term impact of domestic abuse even after separation due to prevention of an education or career, limited working hours or access to pay or benefits, can result in women and children experiencing financial hardship. Receiving support with their wellbeing and healing is essential yet paying for such treatments is not always affordable.
How We Help
Here at Wellbeing Umbrella, we are supporting women and children of Leeds Women's Aid to rise positively from domestic abuse by raising funds through our Pay-It-Forward wellness events, No One-Size-Fits-All online wellness events, and your kind donations. The monies raised help towards paying for wellness treatments and resources.
Here’s some examples of how the money we raise through our Pay-It-Forward wellness events, with your support, can help women and children with their healing journey;
- £10 - could provide a woman with a scented eye pillow to help decrease stress hormones, provide comfort, boost mood, increase circulation, relieve pain, and release tense muscles.
- £20 - 2 x wellness activities such as keep fit or wellbeing classes to help women engage in community activities, increase mood, confidence and independence.
- £45 - 1 hour x hands on therapy to help women with trauma take control of their emotions, receive human touch, and feel safe and respected.
- £100 - 2 x Art therapy sessions to help women and children cope with a multitude of mental and emotional disorders, and to aid in the overall healing process.
- £200 - 4 x Talking therapy sessions to support women in the growth of self-confidence, self-awareness, self-acceptance and the ability to trust own judgement.
Please note: the above information is for guide purposes only. Wellbeing Umbrella and Leeds Women's Aid believe no one-size-fits-all when it comes to wellbeing solutions. Everyone is unique and users of the fabulous charity are free to choose wellbeing solutions that best suit their needs and preference.
Ready to offer a simple act of wellbeing kindness?
