Story
Camp Kudzu is a non-profit organization that serves children and teens living with Type 1 Diabetes through year-round camp programs. We are incredibly lucky to have hundreds of former campers and young adults living with type 1 diabetes continue to join us each year as volunteers! Help us work together to raise money for more kids to join us at camp!!
I have been involved with Camp Kudzu since my diagnosis with Type 1 Diabetes in 2004. I am an alum turned volunteer and I am so thankful for every opportunity camp has granted me. Throughout my years as a camper, I met so many others like me that just got it and knew what life with Type 1 Diabetes was like. Camp was the one place I didn't feel like I had to explain myself all the time. Camp introduced me to some of my closest friends, and longest lasting friendships. Camp also pushed me out of my comfort zone and into trying all kinds of new things. I can honestly say, without Camp Kudzu, I would not be who I am today.
Volunteering with Camp Kudzu is one of the easiest decisions I make all year, even if it is a split second one. Volunteers at Kudzu are really just a large family of people that care about and love each other. We are a family of like minded individuals trying to make an experience like no other for kids that may not get this type of opportunity very often in life. Majority of the volunteers at Camp Kudzu have type 1 themselves, making the atmosphere one of connectedness and understanding for the children and teens that join us at camp every summer.
