Story
On the 12th of Mahe Ramadhan this year, we lost an esteemed elder, a Father, Grandfather and great Grandfather not only for the Sheikh family but for the community.
All who met him can attest to the fact that he was a content, soft-hearted, humble servant of the Almighty Lord.
We have set up this page in honour of one of his greatest attributes, which was his charitability.
With the support of his wife, Marhooma Wazir Begam Sheikh, he worked hard throughout his years to provide halal income for family, friends and the community at large. Despite his humble beginnings, he ensured that he, along with his wife, never forgot to provide for those in need, sometimes giving their own share to other first as taught by our infallible role models (as).
His charity came from all sources, be it his charming smile, giving a sweet to others, distributing nuggets of wisdom all the way up to donating over 90% of his property and wealth towards great charitable causes during his own lifetime. This attitude was driven by his belief that giving charity in one's lifetime is much more valuable than giving after death and without a doubt, it is a great lesson for us all and we pray it serves as a light and noor for him in his next life.
War torn Yemen was always a case for sorrow for both our Grandfather and dear Grandmother. Therefore, we have decided to create a JustGiving page to raise money to provide water for civilians in Yemen. It is the poorest country in the Arab world and has been destroyed by years of war and blockade. Water is a basic necessity that all humans need to survive and therefore we believe this cause is a great one.
We're raising money to provide water for the most needy in Yemen, specifically, Hudaydah & Sana'a. By digging a water borehole, you'll be providing water to over 7,000 people daily. The boreholes will be powered by solar panels and fitted with a storage tank able to hold over a 100,000 litres of water.
The use of wells and pumps are a viable solution for many areas but in Yemen, especially in these locations, water is so far below the earth’s surface that the only way to reach it is to create a large borehole.
A highly complex system, a borehole is not just about digging a deep hole it requires a large water tank that can hold around 100,000 litres, site management offices, a generator room and separate water stations.
To donate during the holy month of Ramadhan has great benefits and giving towards a cause which will benefit humans for years to come is a great investment for this world and the hereafter.
So we ask you, in honour of our dearest elders who gave so much in their lifetime, to donate generously towards helping those who need clean water the most.
May the reward be bestowed on our Marhoom, on the donor and on the donor's Marhoomeen.
JazakAllah
With love and duas,
Sheikh Family.
